Honey, We’re Not in Paradise Anymore!
Dinner at our house last night –
Me – So honey, how was your day?
Adam – *gives me The Look*
Me – Are you ever going to stop blaming me?
Adam – Blame you? Why should I blame you? All you did was get us kicked out of The Garden of Eden where work was fun!
Me – Well, it wasn’t just me! You had a choice.
Adam – You’re right. It’s that slithering snake that’s to blame!
The old argument was interrupted when my boys walked in.
Abel (my youngest) – Mom! Cain won’t play shepherds with me!
Cain (my oldest) – You are such a tattle-tale!
Abel – Am not!
Cain – Are too!
Me – *rolls eyes to heaven* Just another day in paradise.
All families have problems. I can guarantee that it’s been this way since the very beginning of history. As wives and mothers we make mistakes. It’s as certain as the sun rising in the east and setting in the west. When we fail, we can’t go back in time to change what happened; instead, we have to try harder to not make future mistakes.
Unfortunately, no matter how hard we try, we’re going to mess up again. When that happens, we need to admit our failure and not put the blame on someone else. We are each responsible for the choices we make.
The good news is that our failures and shortcomings won’t keep us from God. Selfishness and weakness caused us to lose paradise, but love and forgiveness will help us to find a new paradise.
