The Game For Love

The king of Persia needs a new queen. But how does a wealthy, powerful man find a worthy soul mate and partner? By making his search into a game, of course!

In preparation for the game, commissioners of the King conducted a thorough search of all the provinces in Persia. The most beautiful virgins were selected and then brought to the king’s harem at the citadel of Susa.

At the citadel, they underwent 12 months of beauty treatments to prepare for the elimination competition. Hegai, who manages the harem, oversaw six months of treatment with oil of myrrh and six months of treatment with perfumes and cosmetics. After a year-long regimen of pampering and beautifying, the women are ready to compete to win approval and favor with the King.

Each woman has one date with the King. At the end of each date, the King decides if the woman is worthy of being his queen. Anyone who pleases the King receives a rose and may be summoned by name again to meet with him. Those who are not summoned again remain in the harem.

As the competition heats up, front-runners will emerge and passions will rise. In the race for royal love, which young beauty will ultimately capture the heart of the King?

The fate of these women rests in the King’s hands. He has big decisions to make. Only he has the power to decide who will be the next queen. Will it be a woman of strong moral character as well as beauty? Tune in to find out!

Again, creative liberties since obviously a rose wasn’t part of the Bible story 😉

Devil In Disguise

People of the earthly realm, please heed my warning! Contacting the realm of spirits is dangerous. There is no predicting what they might have to say. You must be prepared to hear messages of doom.

One of my more recent customers, the duplicitous King, wasn’t prepared. He sought me out when his God abandoned him.

No wonder! How little faith a king has to call on the people his God has condemned!

Perhaps his God was kindly sparing him. For when I conjured the spirit the King sought, the message was not what he wanted to hear.

The spirit he believed to be one of God’s prophets proclaimed his ultimate downfall. Fear filled his body and he fell to the ground, unable to even eat or drink.

This is the risk you take when you contact the world of spirits. Seeking forbidden knowledge can lead to great misfortune, even your own demise.

When someone tells you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living? Consult God’s instruction and the testimony of warning. If anyone does not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn (Isaiah 8:19-20).

What A Man Wants, A Woman Gets

A vineyard. Ahab was sulking because a Jezreelite wouldn’t give up his ancestor’s land. What was the big deal? If he wouldn’t give up his land, the king should just take it.

But when my husband wasn’t king enough to handle the situation, I took matters into my own hands, concocting a clever and devious plan, a scheme surely pleasing to the gods. I had the Jezreelite accused of treason and blasphemy, wrongly accused, but who cared? He was stoned to death and Ahab got the land he wanted, which was just; he is king and entitled to whatever land he desires.

The prophet Elijah claims that his ‘God’ will see me killed and eaten by dogs. I’m not worried. Nothing’s happened to me yet and I believe Baal will protect me.

About Me – Goliath of Gath – one of the last of a vanishing breed of giants. I’m large and in charge. There is no man, heck, there is no army that doesn’t fear me. My towering height and hulking muscles make me a god among mere men.

Blog Excerpts

Entry #1 – Day 20

I’m getting bored waiting for the Israelites to send a man to fight me. It’s been 20 days since I issued by challenge. Cowards – every last one of them. Bet there’s not one champion among the whole lot of them.

Entry #2 – Day 28

They’re probably on their knees praying to that ‘one true’ god of theirs. Ha! My strength is all-powerful! Even gods tremble in my presence! If this so-called god can defeat me, bring him on!

Entry #3 – Day 34

Even if my impressive physique wasn’t intimidating enough, I’ve got some major armor. Actually I’m getting pretty tired of putting on my bronze helmet and coat of armor just to turn around and take it all off again. Every day and night, I go out there and issue the same challenge and every morning, the Hebrews cower in fear.

Entry #4 – Day 39

Part of me wishes they’d just give up, but a bigger part of me is just dying for a fight. I can’t way to run someone through with my spear because I know that’s what’s going to happen. I mean, there’s no possible way anyone can defeat my strength!
